I’ve spent a lifetime waiting for a particular event to happen that would mark my arrival. A time where I could finally relax and start enjoying the day to day. I’d be content with the knowledge that I’d made it and life would finally shower me with my just desserts. That favor would come in many forms; a salary that would fill my closet with enviable goodies, a charisma that would take over any room I entered, a man that women would fantasize locking lips with, a personalized look that would turn heads and prompt many to awe over my effortless sense of style and an ability to balance and organize every facet of my glamorous life. This of course would be complete with a housekeeper, dog walker, cook, personal assistant and on call glamour squad that would just need to do minor tweaks due to the fact that I was aging backwards. After years of waiting for the moment to arrive…. I now understand that the moment has always been now. I’ve been shining since day one.
Here are stages in my life that have taught me valuable lessons ……
If it won’t affect your life in five years, don’t sweat it. If you can’t be part of the “in” crowd, you lucked out. If the law says your too young to participate, trust it.
Listen with your gut, a man will say what you want to hear. Don’t be the last to leave the club. You’ve got plenty of time to get married.
Your kids will grow quickly, focus on them. You’ll eventually sleep through the night , stop wiping butts and be able to eat at a restaurant.
Commit to date nights with your partner. Life will get in the way , if you let it. You don’t always have to have the last word.
Life’s lessons are sometimes hard to see. It takes falling in love with your intuition, having a support group that will care for you enough to be truthful and the knowledge that you are capable of anything. Here’s to all you lifelong learners.
